Is the Muslim Brotherhood abandoning its peaceful opposition?
After a series of attacks against the state, a discussion emerged whether the Muslim Brotherhood has abandoned its peaceful protest. The Brotherhood’s spokesman rejected such allegations and underscored their strategy of peaceful opposition, which has proven successful during the Arab Spring. According to an outside commentator, abandoning this path would likely lead to a civil war in Egypt. Yet others purport that the Brotherhood’s growing militancy is a consequence of the last one and a half year of political oppression against it. Finally some expect the movement to split into a violent and politically active faction while other members would retreat from political activities altogether.
