Al-Bawāba columnist `Abd Al-Rahīm `Ali, who is running for the parliamentary electoral constituencies Gīza and Dokki, said that the Salafist Al-Nūr Party is based on religious backgrounds, as was the Freedom and Justice Party, who was the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. “In their eyes [the Salafis'], democracy is a form of heresy, and the process of electing is not a matter for general public to decide,” “and yet,” `Ali added, “they would denounce all what they used to consider as 'harām' (sinful) for the sake of winning parliamentary seats.”
