AWR Quarterly Newsletter
Dear friends,
We are required, because of our new contract with Kerk in Actie in the Netherlands, to produce around 50-60 newsletters per year, that should have an outreach to at least 4000 subscribers. We currently have 2000 subscribers, and thus we need to double this number in the coming 2.5 years. We need your help in achieving this. Please pass on our newsletters to your friends and ask them to subscribe.
We have, for this reason, also created a new quarterly newsletter for all. Please find below our first ‘quarterly.’ Of course we are now in May and this first newsletter is not exactly a quarterly, but future quarterly issues are expected to come out in the first weeks of January, April, July and October.
Those who do not want to have too many mails in their mailbox can also subscribe to the quarterly only. The quarterly newsletter will contain links to previous newsletters. Thus, if you would like to change your subscription to our quarterly newsletter, you can do this by writing us at [email protected].
The quarterly newsletter is only for the regular English mailing list. Other mailing lists are the Dutch and the Cairo mailing lists. The Dutch mailing list concerns people who receive both the English and the Dutch newsletters, and the Cairo mailing list concerns the regular English Newsletters and news about activities in Cairo.
You also need to realize that by being on our mailing list you are supporting us. Please ask your friends, students and others to subscribe to our regular or quarterly newsletter. We not only need to increase our numbers according to our current contract but we of course also want our voice to be heard to a larger audience. That voice is one that it is needed to understand the complexities of Egypt for a better dialogue between peoples of different cultural backgrounds.

On January 16, Cornelis Hulsman and Niccolo Costantini visited the Presbyterian Church in Maadi. They met Pastor Naseem Fadl who is leading the activities to demolish the wooden church that was first established in 2005. The intentions are to realize the old plans to build a large new church on the same location. (Click here for full text)

On January 22nd, Niccolò Costantini, an Italian Intern, visited Dr. Farid Fadel’s exhibition “Warm Hearts of Africa” and met Dr. Fadel himself. Costantini talks about his experience and the opportunity he had, to enjoy art explained by its own creator. (Click here for full text)

The Faculty of Comparative Religion at the University of Manouba, Tunisia, invited Cornelis Hulsman for a presentation about the work of Arab-West Report, but not limit this to Egypt alone. Hulsman tackled a variety of topics, from of the accusations of blasphemy in recent times, to the historical development of Christianity and Islam. (Click here for full text)

The Center for Arab-West Understanding has been able to publish two academic books that are based on the work of several of our interns. H.E. Amr Moussa and H.E. Ambassador Mona Omar agreed to launch this most remarkable effort of our interns. The launch was sat to be held on March 26, 2018 at Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development. Emerging Perspectives on Intercultural and Interreligious Relations
Dialogue Across Borders is a database of summary translations of Arabic newspaper articles with references to their sources about intercultural and interreligious relations, focusing primarily but not exclusively on Muslim-Christian relations. The database also contains articles with editorial analysis and interviews on the subject.
