Coptic individuals and organizations are preparing for the initiation of the first conference on “Citizenship rights of Coptic Egyptians”

Coptic organizations and individuals are preparing for the initiation of a conference that will focus on citizenship rights for Coptic Egyptians. The group issued a document on the issue, including a statement saying that Coptic Egyptians have suffered for many years due to the denial of rights as Egyptian citizens, and that earlier state efforts such as the 1972 ‘Otafy Commission failed to achieve justice for the Copts. The document accused the Egyptian state of systematically reinforcing a culture of discrimination against the Coptic population and giving space to extremists to practice state authority.
