The wave of arrests took place all over the country and the suspects were deemed “to pose a threat to the national security”, the security forces said.
Cornelis Hulsman: Egypt has, unfortunately, a history of violence during several elections and it is understandable that security is trying to reduce such violence as much as possible. That is is done through preventive arrests is not common in Western democracies but has been practiced for several decades in Egypt.
