In an interview on Al-Mehwar TV channel, Hiba ‘Abd el ‘Aziz (head of the Women and Social Issues Unit of the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies) said that women represent between 49 and 52% of the Egyptian population, adding that their representation in Parliament has now reached up to 15% and that Egypt is internationally committed to increasing it to 30% pursuant to international conventions signed in this regard. 

She emphasized the need to raise the efficiency of the female parliamentary representatives, stressing that women are able to expose problems that concern them more than men.
