Our current database editor, Salma Khamis, is leaving us as of January 1, 2018. For this reason, we are urgently seeking a replacement. The sooner you can begin, the better, because this will make it possible to train alongside our current database editors for a few weeks.
Ideal candidates need to be able to language-edit English texts, translate from Arabic to English, transliterate Arabic names, classify text according to our database criteria, and upload them onto our website. You will also be responsible for coordinating with our freelance translators and making sure that they keep their commitments/deadlines. In the first weeks, you will be working intensively alongside our current database editors to learn the various requirements the position entails. After this training, you need to be able to work independently and lead the freelance translators and interns working with you.
We are looking for stability, thus we would like to see a mutual commitment to a period of 18 months which, after this, of course can be extended depending on the circumstances at that moment.
The ideal candidate will be fully bilingual in English and Arabic, a good organizer, and a hard worker, focused on our target production numbers and contributing with suggestions to improve the accessibility of our database.
Our ambition is that our database meets university library criteria so that university libraries can subscribe to our database. That in turn means that this is an ideal position for anyone with academic ambitions.
CIDT is not an organization capable of paying staff western salaries, however a good number of our previous editors have greatly benefited because work with CIDT provided them with the needed professional background for a position elsewhere.
We are offering you, however, a workplace with a very international atmosphere and opportunities to use these experiences to further your career, especially in academia.
Please pass on this email to anyone you think might be interested.
