Invitation for public meeting in Dutch Parliament with
Egyptian non-government delegation, September 2
Egyptian delegation seeks Dutch support for stability in Egypt
Yesterday we informed you about the background of four Egyptian delegates arriving in the Netherlands for a public meeting in the Tweede Kamer (Dutch Parliament) on September 2, 11.00 – 12.00 am, chaired by CDA (Christian Democrat) Member of Parliament Raymond Knops.
Other meetings are planned with the Cairo Overleg (dialogue group of Dutch churches, Muslim and Jewish organizations), Municipality of Den Haag and the Dutch Foreign Ministry.
The Egyptian delegation wants to create understanding for the complex situation in Egypt and seek support for strengthening good governance structures in Egypt. The Municipality of Den Haag will inform the delegates how the Dutch are dealing with (violent) demonstrations. The Egyptians are convinced of the importance of the Center for Arab-West Understanding to provide non-partisan studies and documentation on issues of relevance in Egypt such as the current report on Egypt’s 2014 Constitution and are pleading for support for this NGO.
Friends of the Stichting Arab-West Foundation and the Center for Arab-West Understanding are invited to attend the public meeting in Parliament. Visitors, however, are requested to be September 2 at 10.45 am at the entrance of Parliament and take a copy of this mail with them.
The delegation members are:
Khaled Hassan, researcher with the Center for Arab-West Understanding in Egypt and the Young Egyptian Ambassador of the Arab Peace Initiative Regional Network
General (retired) Abd El-Rafea Darwish, chairman of the Fursan Misr Political Party and former Air Force general
Emad Awny, Coptic businessman and leading member of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party
Cornelis Hulsman, Deputy Chairman Center for Arab-West Understanding, Egypt
This visit is organized by the Stichting Arab-West Foundation in the Netherlands and the Center for Arab-West Understanding in Egypt. They stress the importance of being non-partisan in dialogue activities and are providing delegation members a platform to present their views in the Netherlands without being responsible for the views they may express. Neither organization has the funding to finance this visit and we are thus strongly welcoming any donation you can make to help cover the costs. Donations can be made to the Stichting Arab-West Foundation in the Netherlands, IBAN number NL35 RABO 0105 7799 62 (Euro).
We will of course report about this visit in Arab-West Report and keep you informed through our newsletter.
Cornelis Hulsman,
Deputy Chairman Center for Arab-West Understanding for Stability, Dialogue and Understanding
