Al-Azhar’s Media Center announced the start of the second season of the international drawing and portraiture forum under the motto ‘Empowerment of Women’ on August 11-September 10, 2023 under the auspices of Grand Imām of al-Azhar, Dr. Aḥmad al-Ṭayyīb.
Egyptian President ͑Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Sīsī has made reforming educational and religious discourse a top priority since he was elected and officially assumed office in July 2014. This was in response to concerns about terrorism and the rise to power of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

Coinciding with the June 30 Revolution anniversary and the presidency of  ͑Abd al-Fattāḥ al-Sīsī, al-Azhar was urged by the president to make efforts to renew the religious discourse and combat extremism. These efforts include the establishment of several centers and initiatives.
Al-Azhar Mosque held a forum to refute skeptics’ allegations over the sacrifice rituals in Islam. It was attended by a host of senior clerics and scholars of al-Azhar.
A legislator said more efforts need to be exerted to maintain the Egyptian identity and confront the spread of the Salafī ideology that undermines the Egyptian character, calling for the better use of opportunities through Egyptian TV channels to accomplish this.
Grand Muftī Dr. Shawqī ʿAllām, Chairman of the General Secretariat for Fatwā Authorities Worldwide, said that the institution provides a great opportunity for different ideas and scholarly methodologies to meet.
