Yesterday I received the unexpected news that Ezzat al-Salamony (ʿIzzat al-Salāmunī) died ... back in August. He was a leader in al-Gama'a al-Islamiya (the Islamic Group), designated a terrorist entity by the United States. I was able to interview him a couple of times.

The French Embassy accepted a request from the Egyptian authorities to deport a French citizen. Alan Barnu, headmaster of Champollion school in Alexandria, is to be deported for committing misdemeanors damaging to public safety.

The general assembly of the Lycee Champollion d’Alexandrie decided to expel the veiled student, Azza Amr Mohammed Zaki, and her three brothers, who attend the same school. The justification given for the dismissal were security reasons.
