Azhar Scholars demanded that a couple should not be separated, in a case where one of them has rejected a foundation of Islam, until the case has been discussed and ruled on in court. Professor Abdel-Mo’ti Bayoumi said that what has happened with Nawal Sa’adawi should be discussed before taking the case to court. Professor Abdel-Azim Al-Matani said that she will not be separated from her husband if she testifies before the court that she is Muslim.
