The issue of the higab was raised forty years ago when three veiled women were involved in the conflict between the Islamic movement and the communist movement. Communists were planning to destroy Islam and all other religions. They saw the appearance of these veiled women on Cairo streets as a kind of setback to their plans. They launched a heated campaign against the veil. When a number of actresses wore the veil, they became angry and intensified their efforts to eliminate the veil phenomenon.
