A Syrian researcher studying at the Faculty of Dar Al-Ulum, Cairo University, discussed his Ph.D. thesis on May 31. His thesis is titled “The Stand of the Arab Secular Thought Towards the Qur´anic Text.” Dr. Hassan Hanafi and Dr. Muhammad Emara were members of the discussing committee. The author believes that the discussion turned into a confrontation between the secular and Islamic thought represented by the two professors. The article gives an overview of their comments on the thesis.
