The term of “mission” has bad connotations among many people outside and even inside the Christian churches. On the one hand the image people have about mission today is still determined by the errors and the guilt that the churches have loaded upon themselves in the past, because they have often intermingled mission with the interests of the colonial powers. On the other hand there was an understanding of truth in the Christian churches, which was linked to a claim to absoluteness.
