The remains of Mark the Apostle remained in the hands of Egyptian Christians since his martyrdom in his church in Bolka [Alexandria] in 68 AD. The body remained there during the Byzantine rule. During the period of Pope Kyrillos VI, Pope Paul VI agreed to Pope Kyrillos’s demand to return the body back to its home in Egypt. At the airport [1968], the body of Mark was received by Pope Kyrillos as well as many archbishops and bishops.
