Earlier this month news was reported about the Blessed Virgin Mary apparition over a church in al-Warrāq in Giza. The apparition has created huge controversy in Egypt, especially as it was reportedly followed by other successive apparitions in different places in Cairo. Muslims and Christians gathered on the streets waiting to see more apparitions; Christians sang hymns for the Virgin and Muslims recited the Qur’ānic sūrah of Maryam. For his part, Pope Shenouda attributed the repeated apparitions of the Holy Virgin to “her love for Egypt.”
