The article sheds light on Sāmih Mahrūs’ new book “Muslims and Copts under Mubārak.” The book includes a number of interviews with significant Egyptian thinkers and politicians in al-Jumhūryyah revolving around citizenship and sectarian problems.

Mahrūs indicates that the idea of the book was triggered by the Naja' Hammādi incident. The book concludes that Egypt does not suffer a sectarian fitnah. However, the Muslim-Coptic relationship changes sometimes to the better and sometimes to the worse from time to time.
