Al-Shabbah claims that there are three main reasons behind every fitnah al-tā’ifīyah: the absence of law, corruption of the media, and weakness of the state. However, he claims that these are far from being the only reasons. Al-Shabbah says that the Egyptian government is turning a blind eye to the current "mess" to keep people distracted from political corruption and thinking about the country’s future.
