Last year at a National Democratic Party meeting with the president, Āmāl Salāh delivered a speech about problems facing Naj‘ Hammādī. Everyone, including the President, liked her speech to the extent that people all over Qena started referring to her as “the woman who met the President.” When she was invited back to that same village where the speech was delivered, many people and political leaders suggested she run for parliament, which she did.
