During a lecture for the Egyptian Association for Culture and Dialogue, Association Head Dr. Muhammad Salīm al-‘Awwā urged Muslims to defend Egyptian Churches against the recent threats made by al-Qā‘idah, saying that it is their duty as Egyptians. He also claims that the threats are fabricated and said it would be petty of al-Qā‘idah to interfere in such matters. He said that the constitution permits Copts to become president and discussed his recent controversial comments regarding Copts allegedly storing weapons in churches.
