At a meeting organized by the Egyptian Association for Culture & Dialogue, Islamic thinker Dr. Muhammad Salīm al-‘Awwā said that election fraud is against Islamic sharī‘ah and anyone participating in or aware of the process is like a “silent devil." He also said that the Muslim Brotherhood's mantra “Islam is the Answer” is a political slogan. Al-‘Awwā condemned the U.S. State Department's report on religious freedom in Egypt and said the United States should “leave Egypt alone” adding “we don’t want their wheat, their sugar, or their rice.” He added that Copts and Muslims have been brothers ever since the Islamic invasion of Egypt which freed Copts from their Roman oppressors.
