‘Ayyād says that the lack of a unified law for building places of worship has once again caused problems. She says that it is the main reason behind last Wednesday’s ‘Umrāniyyah riots. She blames the authorities for ignoring the issue since the 1970's, most recently when it was suggested by Muhammad Juwaylī in 2005. She says that the al-Wafd Party is in the process of preparing such a law and shall propose it to the new parliament at its first meeting.
