Church lawyer Ramses al-Najjār called the Supreme Administrative Court’s ruling allowing Copts to remarry “inoperative” because it was issued after the Supreme Constitutional Court’s stay of execution. Shurá Council member Tharwat Bāsīlī said that the law would be against Christian teachings. Meanwhile, Coptic human rights lawyer Najīb Jabrā’īl said that the court has no business in such issues and secular Coptic activist Kamāl Zākhir demanded that the personal status law for non-Muslims be issued as soon as possible.
