The issue of subjecting books of hadīth and interpretation to a process of sifting out Israelite hadīths has resurfaced, although the matter has in the past been met with loud opposition from some religious authorities.

The Azhar University has called for the addition of a new subject to the curriculum that is to be named "intrusions into commentary."

Dr. Sa‘d al-Dīn al-Hilālī, Professor of Comparative Fiqh at the Azhar University, said that certain Jewish figures related events that some thought were Islamic. He added that this step proposed by the Azhar will not amend such commentaries since they are historical references, but they could be qualified by studies and research that warn against accepting what they contain.
