There has been a mixed reaction among Copts to President Husnī Mubārak’s latest speech, but most said it was "disappointing" to Copts.

Michael Meunier, Head of the U.S. Copts Association, said the speech ignored the Copts repeated demands, the most prominent of which is a unified law on houses of worship, as well as an anti-discrimination law.

Dr. ‘Imād Jād of the al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies called on the president to have cancelled article 2 of the constitution, which stipulates that Islam is the principal source of legislation.
