Islamic thinker ‘Abd al-Fattāh ‘Asākir has said that Takfīr Fatwás represent a violation of Islam because belief in God is a personal choice.

He added that the group that poses the most danger to a ruler are not unbelievers, but hypocrites, because it is Muhammad al-Barād‘ī's right as an Egyptian citizen to be a candidate for the presidency, as long as he meets the conditions for candidacy. [Editor's Note: Earlier this week, an unknown Shaykh issued a Fatwá that called for the shedding of possible presidential candidate Muhammad al-Barād‘ī on the basis that he is inciting civil disobedience.]

The article concludes that al-Barād‘ī' has declared his own [political] death by resorting to cooperation with the Muslim Brotherhood, as it has been historically proven that all who resort to the Brothers have been betrayed by them.
