The author says the "misguided Fatwá issued by Dr. Ahmad ‘Abd al-‘Azīz, the Muftī of Dubai, permitting men to use powder and lipstick can only be described as a homosexual Fatwá that departs from the true Muslim faith."
The Azhar, for its part, has denounced this type of Fatwá, whereas some have supported the Dubai Muftī's position, saying that there are verses in the Qur’ān that call for men to beautify themselves, just as women do.
Dr. Su‘ād Sālih, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies for Girls, is one of those who believe what Dr. Ahmad ‘Abd al-‘Azīz has said on the grounds that "Islam is the religion of beauty and cleanliness...and that Islam's call for beauty and beautification is not restricted only to women."
Dr. Nasr Farīd Wāsil, the former Egyptian Muftī, rejects that kind of Fatwá, which serves only to "confuse the minds of Muslims."Wāsil adds that these Fatwás are "regrettably misguided" and mis-interpret the Qur’ānic verses they cite.
