Egyptian Islamist thinker Muhammad Salīm al-‘Awwā insists that Egypt is an Islamic country, saying that people who want to change the second article in the Egyptian consitution are insignificant.

In a meeting of the Egyptian Association for Culture and Dialogue in Rāb‘ah al-‘Adawiyyah, al-‘Awwā also argued that the conditions for building churches in Egypt are far easier than the conditions set forth for building mosques.
