On Tuesday, March 8th, Egyptian Christians refused to end their protests over a burned down church in Helwan, even after the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces promised to rebuild the church and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Many Muslims joined Coptic demonstrators and a meeting was held between Shaykh Ahmad al-Tayyib, Azhar's Grand imām, and a church delegation.

In addition, new Prime Minister 'Isām Sharaf chanted with protesters “the Muslim and the Christian are one hand” out of a window of Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) building [Maspero], in front of the place of the demonstrations.
