'Amr Hamzāwī, a professor of political science in Cairo University, writes an opinion article about the relationship between religion and politics.

He writes that Subhī Sālih, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Shūrá (Consultative) Council, had said in a debate the MB believes that religion cannot be separated from politics.

Hamzāwī argues that liberalism means that instead of asking about how to separate religion from politics, the question should be how to organize the relationship between the two.

He stressed the need to have a constitutional basis rather than religious one to guarantee that non-muslims may run for presidency and enjoy the same rights as Muslims.
