The European Broadcasting Union expressed serious concern with the Egyptian television's media coverage of the incidents in Maspero. It pointed out that the television failed to broadcast the events impartially. The Union, of which the Egyptian Television and Radio Union is a member, expressed in its letter sent by Jan Paul Philip, the head of the Union, to the Head of the Egyptian Television and Radio Union, Tharwat Mikī that the Egyptian and international media means in addition to the non-governmental civil organizations criticized the criteria upon which the reports were made. They also criticized the online broadcasting of the Egyptian TV during the clashes that took place in front of Maspero between the Copts and the security forces, claiming that “the television did not transmit the events in a neutral and independent way." In addition, they accused it of inciting the viewers to take the side of the army.
