On the other hand, Maj. General al-Sayyīd al-Bura’ī, Asyut Governor, expressed his sorrow over the recent incidents that erupted in Asyut when a Christian student called Jamāl ‘Abdu Mas’ūd published images that defame Islam on his social networking media Facebook page.

Al-Bura’ī met with Interior Minister Maj. General Muhammad Ibrāhīm, the Director of Asyut Security Department, Muslim and Christian clerics and elders of the villages of Bahīj, Sallām, al-‘Adar and Manqabād to clinch conciliation in an attempt to pacify the fitnah tā’ifīyah sparked during the past few days in Asyut.
Several demands included charging Mas’ūd with disdaining religions, forcing him and his family to leave the governorate of Asyut, investigating the burning of Christian and Muslim houses, finding and bringing the perpetrators to justice, offering official apology from the priests in all the media outlets and arresting Mas’ūd’s friend who incited the troubles.
