Meanwhile, a source at the papal seat of the Coptic Orthodox Church, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that a meeting attended by Bishop Mūsá on March 27 discussed suggestions of "explaining" some articles in the Statute on the Patriarch Election for year 1957, like Article 9, in which the terms "Spiritual Council" and "agents of the Christian law" need to be clarified.

Bishop Baphnotius of Samallūt, who is supporting the amendment of the 1957 Statute, called for canceling the "sacred election by lot" and described the Statute as "not functioning even to bring a church guard," while Bishop Pachomius, the caretaker patriarch, strongly refused any amendment in the Statute.
