The closure of commercial centers, resturants, banks, gas stations and pharmacies in Saudi Arabia during prayer times is a "religious novelty" which has no foundation in religion, said the Saudi Sharī'ah researcher and member of the Saudi Commission for Investigation and Prosecution 'Abdullāh al-'Uwaylīl.

He further indicated that evidence from the Sharī'ah assures that interrupting work during prayer times is a violation of Islamic law.
