The coalition, in a statement circulated on Friday (May 4), warned that some parties are using these demonstrations and the security forces’ preoccupation with them in order to carry out “terrorist operations targeting churches and vital state institutions”.
“With grief and pain, we condemn the Tahrīr protests and the ‘Abbāssīyah sit-in. The advocates of those two events are seeking personal gains at the expense of the homeland,” read the statement received by al-Misrī al-Yawm.
“While we pray for the unity and progress of Egypt, we appeal to the elders in this nation to place its interests above those of any faction or group. We also urge them not to interact with calls of division that involve deceptive wily objectives aimed at breaking the military establishment and the Egyptian army in the fashion of earlier calls to break security and the police,” it added.
