Security agencies arrested 22 persons carrying Palestinian, Syrian and Jordanian passports, including nine who entered Egypt illegally, in the cities of Rafah, Port Said and al-Ismailia, while the search is on for a number of Palestinians who infiltrated into Egypt.
Security sources revealed that several Palestinians who belong to the ‘Izz al-Dīn al-Qassām Brigades and Hamās entered Egypt under the pretext of visiting their relatives while others, considered by security agencies as “extremely dangerous to the country’s stability, sneaked in through the tunnels.
Investigations with the arrested persons revealed that they were planning to carry out “terror” attacks, storm police stations and use heavy weapons to destroy police and army checkpoints in Sinai and other strategic positions.
