The al-Haram Appellate Court of Misdemeanors today (July 4) is reviewing the first session of an appeal filed by renowned veteran Egyptian actor ‘Ādil Imām, who had been sentenced to three months in jail and payment of a fine of LE200 (roughly $35) on charges of disdaining religion and offending Islam in more than a film and theater production.

Safwat Husayn, a lawyer for Imām, had filed the appeal, arguing that all productions by the leading actor obtained licenses from the censorship organizations. [Haytham Salāmah, al-Akhbār, July 4, p. 9] Read text in Arabic
