There have been mixed reactions to the calls to “overthrow the Muslim Brotherhood” yesterday (August 25) and the day before yesterday (August 24). Muhammad Abū Hāmid, former Member of Parliament [??for what party??] and one of the advocates of the demonstrations, announced that three million people took part in demonstrations on the 24th August [editor: a huge exaggeration], while the Muslim Brotherhood confirmed that the million-man protests had failed. Some parties considered the demonstrations to be the beginning of a series of protests against what some are calling “the rule of the Muslim Brothers.” Other parties have said that the demonstrations failed to mobilize citizens and were weak evidence of the ability of supporters of the old regime to attract citizens (Ibtisām Ta’lab, ‘Alā’ Sarhān, Ahmad ‘Alām, Muhammad Tal’at Dā’ūd and ‘Amr Khālid, al-Misrī al-Yawm, August 26, p. 4).
