Christian denominations in Egypt united with the Azhar in requesting a law criminalizing insulting religion and refused to accuse all expatriate Copts for a mistake of only a small number of its members.

Father Rafīq Greish, spokesman of the Coptic Catholic Church in Egypt, said that the Catholic Church has been calling for the issuance of that law for ten years from the United Nations. But their request was not positively met by the organization.

Dr. Rev. Safwat al-Bayādī, head of the Coptic Evangelical Church in Egypt, said that it is hard to call for an international law but suggested a law that can be executed in Egypt.
