Al-Yawm al-Sābi' obtained a report from the Board of State Commissioners in which it recommended the administrative court to enforce the Ministry of Interior to place surveillance cameras around mosques, churches, monasteries, public places and government offices to offer protection and security.
This is the result of a lawsuit issued by lawyer and rights activist Nāsir Muhammad Amīn who requested that the Ministry of Interior place surveillance cameras. Amīn stated that forces of vandalism and destruction are targeting Egypt.
The report emphasised that the Ministry’s decision to refrain from placing cameras clearly decreases the rule of law in Egypt. The report clarified the need for intensified actions against the crime and vandalism that has been occurring on the streets of Egypt. Surveillance cameras should be placed at all locations considered by the Ministry to be under threat of attack.
The report was based on article 22 of the 2012 Constitution, which states that public funds should be used for protection and response to the state and society, and article 5, which states that it people’s sovereignty should be protected and the unity of the nation be preserved (Muhammad Sa'd, al-Yawm al-Sābi', Mar. 5, p. 3).
