In al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, Sahar Tūnī, the disappeared Kom Ombo’s teacher, said that the Church has nothing to do with her escape. She related that she had doubts about her Islamic doctrine from five years while surfing Islamic forums on the internet and reading about Islam’s position from women and the number of wives Prophet Muhammad had. She added that she went to Christian forums to find the truth and found tolerance in these forums. Through the forums, she met a Christian young man from Luxor and he helped her to understand Christianity better. She contacted several priests in Luxor and Sohag governorates but they refused to Christianize her, stressing that faith should be from the heart. She then met a man who claimed to be a Christian that converted from Islam, he convinced her to leave Kom Ombo and travel to Sharm al-Shaykh so that he can help her to convert to Christianity. However, she sat with Islamic clerics who answered all her hanging questions and doubts about Islam. Shaykh Hasan Ismā’īl, head of the Kom Ombo’s religious endowments, said that Tūnī never converted from Islam and she just had some questions that were answered. He added that she testified on her Islam in front of shaykhs and Islamic scholars to assure her Islam (Hamādah Ba’zaq, al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, Mar. 9, p. 3). Read original text in Arabic.
