A number of displaced Copts have once again demanded government protection. A number of nations and organisations have been asked to guarantee this request, including the Vatican, Israel, the European Union and the United states among others. Ilīyyā (Elijah) Basīlī, president of the [alleged] Coptic state, said in a statement attributed to him that the Copts should follow the new Catholic Pope in getting Christian prisoners released from Libya. The executive secretary of the [alleged] Coptic state Maurice Sādiq stated that some supposed Muslims betray the country. He added that Islam is the nation not the earth and that an Islamic affiliation beyond the country is strange and has not place in Egypt despite the endemic Islam (John ‘Abd al-Malāk, al-Misrīyūn, Mar. 24, p. 3).
