The engineer ‘Asim ‘Abd al-Mājid, member of the Shūrá Council, began a fierce attack against what TV channels have called “Fitnah”. He blames TV channels for presenting a distorted and falsely informed picture of the crises spreading through Egypt. He points out that there is too great a focus on every mistake committed by Islamist streams, while the crimes of other political forces are largely ignored. Al-Mājid claims this type of reporting is what ignited the violence at al-Khusūs. He stressed how important it is that Islamic TV channels begin a fierce campaign against all those involved in the events of al-Khusūs and that they focus on the involvement of extremist Copts in the attacks on civilians in al-‘Abbāsīyyah and al-Dimirdāsh.
Al-Mājid criticises how places of worship remain silent for political purposes and that figures of the Church are not putting an end to the insults targeting the Presidency. He also points out how Satellite Channels are deliberately emphasising the crises even though these kinds of events often happened during the Mubarak era.
Al-Mājid has demanded that President Mursī adopts a firm stance against these practices since their continuation threaten the collapse of the state. He also stresses the importance of unifying Islamist forces and the need for them to renounce their differences (Husayn ‘Umrān, al-Misrīyūn, Apr. 11, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic.
