Further clashes near the Cathedral turned out to be less violent than what had happened outside the Cathedral two days before. Groups of thugs threw Molotov cocktails and stones at the Cathedral, after which a violent fight between the attackers and the Copts inside the cathedral broke out. Security forces tried to disperse them by firing tear gas.
A Coptic source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that several Coptic activists, politicians and jurists held a closed meeting in order to lodge a complaint to international organizations and the United Nations. The Egyptian Council of Churches condemned the clashes at the Cathedral and demands from state bodies to intervene immediately. They call for the dismissal of the Minister of Interior, while the Maspero Youth Union called the President to step down (Mustafá Rahūmah, al-Watan, Apr. 9, p. 5). Read original text in Arabic.
