Several representatives of civil parties and Coptic members of Parliament (MPs) held a press conference about the happenings in al-Khusūs and the Cathedral. It was generally agreed that Muhammad Mursi (Mursī) should bear responsibility for the recent happenings. All participants demanded the dismissal of the Minister of Interior, reformation of the Ministry of Interior, reinforcing the sovereignty of law by toppling the Public Prosecutor and formation of a fact-finding committee .
MP Tharwat Nāf‘ah said that what is happening in Egypt proves the state‘s failure. For his part, Ihāb al-Kharāt demands deeds instead of words of the President. One of the most enraged representatives at the conference was Rāmī Lakah, who sees in the assault on the rights of the Coptic minority the beginning of ethnic cleansing in Egypt. He accused the state and the Minister of Interior of remaining silent, while eight Christians have been killed without knowing why (Nūr ‘Alī and Aymān ‘Alī, al-Yawm al-Sābi’, Apr. 9, p. 9).Read original text in Arabic.
