According to a security source, all of the suspects -- Samīr Iskandar, Najlā' Najīb, and Nisīm Fārūq, surrendered to the police in Qalyubia Security Department. Two brothers of the Iskandar family had already been arrested for suspected involvement in the events. Investigations have already revealed that the Iskandar family caused the violence at al-Khusūs, which led to the killing of a Muslim man and injured two others. The suspects are facing charges of thuggery, use of violence, unlicensed possession of weapons, disturbing public security, and defamation of religions. In addition to these charges, they are facing a charge of murder and attempted murder.
In a related development, Pope Tawadros has received the victims’ families to offer his support. Dozens of families of victims came to the Cathedral to meet the Pope, while a number of people attempted to enter to interview the Pope, arguing that their children were indiscriminately arrested without there being any link between them and the incident. Security prevented them from entering the grounds (John ‘Abd al-Malāk, Sarah Hāmid and Ahmad Sulaymān, al-Misrīyūn, Apr. 16, p. 3). Read original text in Arabic.
