Bishop Raphael, General Secretary to the Holy Synod, has said that although the previous regime tried, and failed, to maintain its legitimacy for over 30 years by driving a wedge between Muslims and Christians, the Muslim Brotherhood has succeeded in five months. The Bishop noted that during the 25 January Revolution, Egyptians of all faiths and classes joined as one, yet currently no one feels secure. He claimed that religious intolerance is already in the educational curriculum, and that classes on how different faiths can live together should replace it. When asked about some Christian groups receiving funding from abroad, he responded by saying that just as not all Muslims are satisfied with the Azhar, not all Christians are satisfied with the Church. He then returned the question, asking where the Muslim Brotherhood receives its funding from (Nīvīn Ashraf, al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, Apr. 24, p. 1). Read original text in Arabic.
