Habībah Sha'bān, 28-years-old, a Coptic convert to Islam, was rescued yesterday (May 12) following her Coptic husband's "alleged" attempt to kill her. She was "allegedly" stabbed several times whilst she was trying to see her son at his primary school in Asyut. Habībah who was known as 'Azzah William before her conversion, separated from her husband after he refused to allow her to return to Islam. Detectives led by Captain Mahmūd Badawī arrested the husband, who admitted that he carried out the attack out of fear that his wife would kidnap his son. During his appearance before the Public Prosecutor he threw himself off the fourth floor of the Asyut courthouse and died instantly. Mu'taz Bishnak, a Salafī call official, said that al-Nūr Party delegation will be formed to offer Sha'bān the assistance she needs as she recovers in hospital (Husayn 'Uthmān and Fātimah Jābir, al-Misrīyūn, May 13, p. 11).
