Former member of Parliament and representative of al-Jamā’ah al-Islāmīyah in People’s Assembly for north Naj’ Hammādī (Qena Governorate) constituency, ‘Abd al-Nāsir ‘Abd al-Halīm, said that the Muslim Brotherhood’s Muftī had no right to issue a fatwá because he is not from “ahl al-Fatwá” or “People of Fatwá”, meaning he does not belong to Dār al-Iftā’ (Ifta House) or the Holy Azhar that are authorized to issue fatwás (Hāzim Rif’at, al-Dustūr, May 7, p. 2). Read original text in Arabic.
