Salafīst students at the Azhar University sent warning letters to their professors and deans of different faculties to announce their repentance of their old thoughts and of becoming "real" Muslims by adopting the Salafī school of Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) with its specific old and contemporary scholars and abandon whoever else disagrees with their thoughts!
In their declaration, they call for the destruction of Egypt's ancient landmarks, as they are glorified by people, thus, a violation of God's law.
According to Salafī doctrines, polygamy is compulsory for a Muslim man, and, according to their teachings, it is not permissible for women to assume positions of senior public authority. The headscarf is mandatory.
Having denounced democracy as un-Islamic, politics can only be tied to morals and values, thus, should refer only to Islam.
Supportive of authoritarian regimes, Salafīs reject revolting against the ruler, even if he is unjust.
According to Usāmah al-ꞌAbd, president of the Azhar University, these doctrines are contrary to the moderate role the Azhar preserved throughout its history; the Salafīs, he added, support the ultra-conservative Saudi Wahābī doctrine, which, according to Dr. al-'Abd, is a as well a misinterpretation of the true Salafī doctrine.
